Alex Erskine is a Partner and the Group Team Leader of the Funds and Investment Services team. Alex served as Managing Partner of Appleby's BVI office as part of an eighteen month secondment to that office from March 2007 to October 2008. He practices in the areas of corporate and commercial law, specialising in advising on structuring and operating investment vehicles including mutual funds, hedge funds, unit trusts, partnerships, and close ended funds. He advises on securities offerings, listings, investment banking, asset management issues, brokerage, custody and financial services generally. Alex also specialises in providing advice on Bermuda's Investment Business Act which regulates the provision of Investment Services in and from Bermuda. Alex has been ranked by PLC Which Lawyer? as a Recognised Lawyer for Investment Funds (2009). In 2009 IFLR1000 named Alex as a leading Lawyer in the Financial and Corporate category.
Alex joined the Group in 1999. He became a Partner in 2006 and served as Managing Partner of Appleby's British Virgin Islands' office from March 2007 to October 2008. Prior to joining Appleby he was Deputy Legal and Compliance Director of the Asset Management Division of UBS AG.
Alex was educated in Ghana and England and studied law at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth graduating in 1986 with a LL.B.Hons. He passed his professional exams in 1987 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1996, the Bermuda Bar in 2006 and the British Virgin Islands Bar in 2007.
Alex was born in Accra, Ghana and speaks fluent Akan.
